Fun Indoor Games for Preschoolers

Another rainy day, my kid is getting restless! It’s hard to keep him from going stir crazy when we’re stuck indoors, and when there’s just not a lot of space for running and playing! Especially when his sister is peacefully sleeping!!

We came up with fun little games to play on days when we’re stuck inside!!

1. Magical Mama – I try to be his very own Stephen Mulhern. I simply place a coin under one of three cups and shuffle the cups around, then ask him to guess which cup holds the coins? Being sneaky sometimes I place the cups near the edge of a table and secretly drop the coin. I watch his eyes light up in amazement when he learn the coin has gone πŸ˜‰

2. Puzzles – I love to exercise his creative, cognitive and problem-solving muscles with a good puzzle. You can use a store-bought variety or have the kids make their own. Have your child draw a picture on a sturdy piece of cardboard. Then use a pencil to outline puzzle pieces directly on the drawing. Cut out the pieces with a good pair of scissors, mix them up and get solving!img_2039-lana

3. The listening game – I simply take out some miscellaneous items. Have my child look at all the items, and then take them away. Next, ask him to hide his eyes and listen as I pick up an item and make sounds with it. Ask him to guess which item made the sound? Examples of items: a comb (run my fingers along it), a glass (gently tap it), musical toy instruments, shakers, a pot and spoon!dsc00583-new

4. Bubbles – You don’t need to go outside to enjoy bubbles. This is a fun activity for the kids to do their own, you will end up with bubbles all over, but that’s the point, isn’t it? It’s also fun to give your kids ideas about how to blow the bubbles! For this game, you need a bowl and straw, some dishwashing soap and water! Place a dime-size drop of dish soap at the center of each bowl, pour a little water into the bowl and gently mix until some suds start to form, have my child place the straw in the suds and blow! You won’t believe how much the kids enjoy it!!

  2. Lovely article. Guessing you’re a really great mom. I don’t have any younger siblings but I do have baby cousins and I’d definitely love to try out some these 😊

  3. Mine used to love (and still do!) junk modelling. I used to collect up all the boxes and tubes for a couple of weeks and then let them make whatever they wanted. A good way to develop young imagination! Once at school you can theme it to whatever topic they’re studying! Plus it saves doing the recycling!
